LDR101 — Discipleship II (3)

LDR201 — Issues for Leadership Effectiveness (3)
Issues facing leaders are constantly changing. This course examines the latest issues facing personal leadership. Students will use the strategies given to increase their emotional intelligence. Emphasis will be given to the leader's personal life and explore their calling and personal philosophy of ministry. Prerequisite: HTH274
This course will equip the student to engage people effectively in conversation, both in informal and structured settings, in a way that is consistent with the hearers’ cultural background, is tactful, diplomatic, respectful and yet is faithful to the gospel message of salvation in Jesus Christ. Students will learn techniques of asking questions that provoke discussion challenging underlying assumptions and planting the seeds of the gospel in ways that maintain a respectful and friendly interaction. The student will also learn how to exegete Biblical passages, developing the main ideas in the passage and communicating these using the language of the hearers. The basic principles and elements of Biblical exegesis and homiletics will be examined, and students will have an opportunity to practice effective communication, teaching and preaching.
What are the specific actions that a ministry leader needs to take to be effective? This course provides practical understanding of how to lead a congregation or ministry effectively by working with people in vision development and casting, developing and working with volunteers, running meetings, budget development, and other administrative task critical to effective leadership. Prerequisite: HTH274
LDR252 — Theological Foundations for Global Leadership (3)
A comprehensive study of the nature and missionary intent of the church as it is progressively revealed in the Old and New Testaments. Emphasis is placed on enabling potential church leaders to solidify and grasp the biblical basis of missionary imperatives as they relate to intercultural world evangelization and church planting. Prerequisite: ICS150 and HTH274.
LDR301 — Leadership Strategies (3)
This course teaches students how to implement some of the leading strategies vital to effective leadership. Emphasis will be given to organizational leadership. This includes mission statements, vision, key results, change management, organizational ethos and human resources. Prerequisite: HTH274
LDR311 — Team Leadership Theories & Practices (3)
This course focuses on theories of healthy team development, personal and group dynamics and communication as a team. Time is spent in understanding board governance and board development, and how to function more effectively and efficiently as a team leader in navigating conflict situations. Prerequisite: HTH274
LDR402 — Leadership Capstone Course (3)
The intention of this course is to tie together courseware, field education and spiritual formation. The course will include oral exam of theology and ministry practices, case studies and inspirational leadership examples. Students will develop a portfolio which will include credo, ministry preferences, experiences, faith journey, and several ministry assessment tools. Prerequisite FE301 and 90 credit hours of course work.
LDR411 — Communication to Youth (3)
This course develops specific principles and methods for communicating to teenagers in settings common to student ministries. Students will be given class time to develop skills in planning and executing lessons and talks. The practice of exegesis and the application of Scripture to youth issues will be addressed. Prerequisite: COM100
LDR412 — Youth Leadership Foundations (3)
The study and assessment of the history and philosophy of student ministry in North America as a basis for doing healthy youth ministry today. Time is also spent discussing the effective elements, practices, philosophies and models of youth work. Prerequisite: HTH274
LDR413 — Youth Leadership Practices (3)
A course, which at its center, offers the nuts and bolts leadership elements experienced in a day-to-day, church-based youth ministry. The course pays particular attention to risk management in youth ministry, team building among staff, creating staff job descriptions, building partnerships with parents and families, the use of appropriate planning processes and healthy budgeting practices. Prerequisite: HTH274
LDR419 — Youth Leadership Practicum (12)
All of the theory in the world does not make a person an effective leader. A full-year of ministry, at least part-time, with a seasoned youth leader as a mentor will solidify what is learned in the classroom and field education experiences and extend the learning into the real-world of leadership. Normally taken in the last year. Prerequisites: FE301.
LDR431 — Homiletics (3)
Homiletics is the study of sermon preparation and delivery. The student studies several types of sermons and develops skills in using principles of sermon preparation. The course includes video-taped evaluation of sermons preached. Prerequisite: COM100
LDR432 — Thelogical Fundations of Pastoral Leadership (3)
Effective ministry is grounded in sound theology. This course offers students opportunity to engage in theological study and reflection that relates to several aspects of local church ministry: the nature and biblical mandate of the church, the pastoral role, communion, baptism, marriage, divine healing, etc. The course explores various theological traditions with an aim to help students shape a theological framework for future ministry. Prerequisite: HTH274
LDR433 — Pastoral Leadership Practices (3)

LDR434 — Pastoral Care (3)
This course deals with the role of the pastor as caregiver and facilitator of care ministry in the local church. Students learn how to prepare for and conduct the ordinances/sacraments such as weddings, funerals, baptisms and/or dedications; deal with counseling requests; handle visitation needs all the while safeguarding one’s personal life. Prerequisite: HTH274
LDR435 - Ministry to Men (3)
This course explores the biblical design and role of men, and the importance of the discipleship of men in shaping healthy families and churches. Students will understand how to address the primary spiritual battles men face and how to personally mentor another man. In addition, this course will provide a practical framework to build a church culture that will impact men's lives, and build a disciple making men's ministry.

LDR451 — Cross-cultural Communication (3)
The purpose of the course is to introduce the students to the basic concepts of cross-cultural communication. The theoretical and the practical aspects of it will be examined. Attention is given to the following: exploring the roots of cross of cross-cultural differences, developing an awareness and sensitivity of how communication is taking place, and developing a personalized approach to enable effective cross-cultural understanding and communication. Prerequisite: COM100
LDR453 — Global Leadership Practices (3)
Preparation for field placement is an essential component for developing well trained cross-cultural workers. To maximize the opportunity of working in a cross-cultural environment the candidates need to be prepared on a spiritual and a personal level. This course allows them to explore the areas of spiritual disciplines, personal preparation, developing team dynamics, and skills for cross-cultural adaptation. The emphasis is on practical skills to enable the students to gain the most out of their cross-cultural experience. Prerequisite: HTH274, ICS150
LDR454 — Cultural Intelligence Strategies (3)
Cultural Intelligence is more than just a fancy way of expressing cultural sensitivity. One can be culturally sensitive and yet still fail to be cross culturally effective. Simply knowing about other cultures, using language and understanding culturally dynamics will not guarantee cross cultural success. The science of CQ has been studied across over 50 countries and has proven to be the only Scientific Intelligence model that crosses cultures. This course deepens the students understanding of Cultural Intelligence and develop methods and strategies for cultural intelligent ministry raising the chance of cross cultural effectiveness greatly. Prerequisite: HTH274 and ICS150
LDR459 — Global Leadership Practicum (12)
Each Global Leadership student spends an extended period of time (at least 6 months) with a seasoned leader as a mentor. The experience allow the student to put into practice what has been learned in the classroom and previous field education experiences and extend the learning into the real-world of leadership. Normally taken in the final year.
LDR471 - Understanding the Worship Context (3)
This course is about how to communicate through the worship arts. The purpose of art is communicate. How that happens and how the cultural, physical, social, ethnic, and theological context impacts on that is explored. Students will develop and articulate a concept/philosophy of worship as well as develop the skills to understand the context and audience and how to relate effectively to them. Prerequisites: HTH274 Leadership Principles and COM100 Introduction to Communications
LDR472 - Foundations of Worship Leadership (3)
This course is designed to give students a biblically sound theological foundation for leading worship. Issues of style, form, purpose, and audience are addressed. Worship styles reflect the culture of the congregation. Understanding the nature and purpose of worship is critical in avoiding "worship wars". Prerequisite: HTH274 Leadership Principles
LDR473 - Worship Leadership Practices (3)
Worship Arts leaders need to be able to understand worship and how to lead it and the teams of people involved in such ministries. They also need to be able to understand and handle the administrative and practical aspects. Students will learn about running meetings, risk management, dealing with conflict, managing budgets, designing worship events, communicating with other team members, working with leadership, etc. In order to be a healthy leader, a person must also master time management, self leadership and ethical dilemma. Prerequisite: HTH274 Leadership Principles

FE101 - Field Education I
This course emphasizes a practical educational component. Students are expected to be involved with several local churches or agencies for a minimum of 100 hours with the expectation of observing a variety of ministry practices. Along with these experiences, students will be coached and mentored in developing their spiritual and professional life. Self reflection and self evaluation will be the main tools for assessment.
FE201 — Field Education II
This course emphasizes a practical educational component. Students are expected to be involved with a local church or agency for a minimum of 200 hours with the expectation of participating in a ministry setting. Along with this experience, students will be coached and mentored in developing their spiritual and professional life. Self reflection and self evaluation will be the main tools for assessment. Prerequisites: FE101 and 30 credit hours of course work
FE301 — Field Education III
This course emphasizes a practical educational component. Students are expected to be involved with a local church or agency for a minimum of 300 hours with the expectation of developing leadership skill in a ministry setting. Along with this experience, students will be coached and mentored in developing their spiritual and professional life. Self reflection and self evaluation will be the main tools for assessment. Prerequisite: FE201 and 60 credit hours of course work
